It may seem hard to boost your self-esteem when you’re surrounded by things that lower it. The good news is that no matter how difficult your circumstances are, anyone can think highly of themselves. Changing your mindset from negative thinking to positive is a way to boost your self-esteem. According to a mental health platform BetterHelp, “A pessimistic attitude and fixed mindset lowers self-esteem because it overwhelms your mind with negative thoughts”. Instead of filling your head with negativity, tell yourself positive encouragement like affirmations. These are a great way of learning to love yourself more.
Here are 5 affirmations you can say aloud to yourself:
“I am proud of myself”
“I am open to healing”
“I love that I love what I love”
“I am successful”
"I am unstoppable”
Affirmations help with self- sabotaging thoughts that trick you into believing you are not important. Positive Psychology states, “...positive phrases or statements used to challenge negative or unhelpful thoughts”. The article mentions there’s a science behind positive talk. Self- Affirmation Theory is an empirical study that humans can maintain self- integrity by telling ourselves what we believe in positive ways. Integrity is important in anyone because it shows their truthful actions. If you’re honest about being a kind person (telling yourself/ others) and you show that even further through actions will show your integrity.
Affirmations definitely help with boosting confidence in yourself but there are other factors you can do to avoid negative contact. Surround yourself with people who have nice things to say to you. Friends and family have a big influence on how we view ourselves. When we catch ourselves believing what others think of us it’s important to challenge this opinion. Reflect and realize is the opinion even true? Does the opinionated person have good self- esteem, themselves? Are their opinions uplifting? Then, master this strategy by embracing your individuality. You are your own person and comparable to no one. People’s opinion about you should never compare to your own. When you find yourself comparing to other people’s appearances, accomplishments, and relationships, think about the self- work they put into achieving that and how you can do the same in your own journey.
Thinking highly of yourself and doing high quality things to maintain your self- esteem. No one is going to see you as positively until you begin to express that aura. Aura is the energy a person puts out. So, put out good vibes in and out of yourself with positivity to help boost your self- esteem.
